The City of Meridian is currently accepting applications from individuals who live south of Interstate 84 and are interested in serving on the Meridian Planning & Zoning Commission. This geographic requirement helps ensure balanced representation across the community by maintaining diversity in where commissioners live. The deadline to apply is Friday, July 17, 2026, by 5:00 p.m.
The Meridian Planning & Zoning Commission advises City leaders on planning policies, including land use, zoning, transportation, and housing policies and goals. It is comprised of up to nine voting members who are appointed to serve three-year terms. Its members generally meet on the first and third Thursday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at Meridian City Hall. Members of this group serve on a voluntary basis and receive no financial compensation. More information is available on the Planning and Zoning Commission's webpage.
In addition to the application, a letter of interest and resume should be submitted with the completed application. Applications can be submitted online or delivered to Mayor Simison at Meridian City Hall, 33 E. Broadway Avenue, Meridian, ID., 83642. All applications should be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026. The successful applicant, who must reside within Meridian’s city limits or its area of impact, will be appointed by Mayor Simison and confirmed by the Meridian City Council. Preference may be given to those who live in South Meridian.
Citizen involvement is an essential part of a strong local government. The City of Meridian promotes citizen involvement by inviting residents to serve on commissions to assist the City in its decision-making processes.
