Calling All Future Leaders: Meridian Youth Invited to Apply For City Commissions

MERIDIAN - The City of Meridian is inviting local high school students to take an active role in their community by serving on a City Commission or Board. Youth members bring valuable perspectives to civic discussions while gaining firsthand experience in how a city operates. Selected applicants will be appointed to one-year terms by Mayor Robert Simison and will attend the regularly scheduled meetings and activities where real issues are discussed and debated by their assigned commissions.

Applicants must reside in the City of Meridian or the city’s area of impact and be in grades 9-12 throughout their appointment. Youth serving on commissions provide a unique perspective on the topics at hand and serve as a liaison between their Commission and the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council (MYAC). Applicants may be asked to give reports to MYAC to provide informational updates and receive feedback from the members of MYAC.

Applications are currently being accepted for the following Commissions:

  • Parks and Recreation – advises on park planning, improvements, policies, budget, and recreation programs
  • Historical Preservation – works to preserve the character of historically-significant areas and structures
  • Transportation – advocates for safe, efficient, and multi-modal transportation options relating to roads, bike lanes, pathways, and lighting.

This is a great opportunity for Meridian High School students to have their voices heard and learn more about their city. To apply, students should complete an application and submit a letter of interest and resume. Applications can be submitted online or delivered to Mayor Simison at Meridian City Hall, 33 E. Broadway Avenue, Meridian, ID 83642. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 5 p.m.
